Introduction

GSDF supports climate action, environmental protection, and biodiversity conservation through locally grounded and globally informed approaches.

Why This Matters in the Global South

Global South countries are among the most vulnerable to climate change, environmental degradation, and biodiversity loss—despite contributing least to global emissions.

GSDF’s Approach & Initiatives

Indigenous Knowledge & Local Contexts

Indigenous communities possess deep ecological knowledge related to land management, water conservation, biodiversity protection, and climate adaptation. GSDF supports the ethical sharing of this knowledge as a cornerstone of climate resilience.

Impact Stories & Learning

Through GSDF-supported projects, communities have strengthened local climate resilience and environmental stewardship using integrated knowledge systems.

Mangrove restoration program

TIIKM’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative for Global South Development demonstrates a strategic commitment to environmental sustainability through a mangrove restoration program implemented in Bali, Indonesia, in collaboration with Udayana University. This initiative directly addresses pressing climate challenges in coastal regions, including rising sea levels, land subsidence, and the rapid degradation of mangrove ecosystems, which are critical natural barriers against flooding and erosion. By restoring these ecosystems, the project contributes to strengthening coastal resilience, enhancing biodiversity, and supporting local livelihoods.

The program adopts a participatory and impact-driven approach, where mangrove saplings are planted and nurtured with active stakeholder involvement, fostering long-term environmental stewardship. It also emphasizes awareness creation and community engagement, ensuring that conservation efforts extend beyond a one-time activity into sustained ecological responsibility.

Aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals—particularly SDG 13 (Climate Action), SDG 15 (Life on Land), and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals)—this initiative reflects TIIKM’s broader vision of integrating sustainability into international academic collaboration. It serves as a scalable model for future CSR interventions across the Global South, reinforcing TIIKM’s role in driving meaningful, community-centered environmental impact.
